Person hospitalized in fire that collapsed detached garage near popular Tacoma park

One person was hospitalized following a house fire Tuesday near Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

Tacoma firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the 5900 block of North Park Way at 7:17 a.m. There was a detached garage behind a house that collapsed, department spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd said.

Shepherd said one person was taken to the hospital. The extent of that person’s injuries was not immediately available.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in less than hour, Shepherd said.
