Pierce County apartment fire displaces 6 people. 1 person taken to hospital on Sunday

Six people were displaced after a fire in a Lakewood apartment building Sunday.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched at 5:46 p.m. to the 5000 block of Boston Avenue Southwest. Four of the eight apartment units were damaged, according to Hallie McCurdy, West Pierce Fire deputy chief.

The American Red Cross assisted six people who had to be relocated, she said. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation. They were reportedly in stable condition.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, McCurdy said. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:32 p.m., but investigators stayed a bit longer.
