Heavy fire burns through Fife storage facility, causing extensive damage overnight
A large fire caused significant damage to a storage facility in Fife overnight.
Tacoma Fire responded to multiple calls at 11:19 p.m. of heavy smoke coming from the building in the 4500 block of 20th Street East. Firefighters took offensive and defensive approaches on different parts of the fire, according to the Fire Department on X.
The fire was going for hours. Firefighters would knock the flames down, but it would start up again throughout the night, Tacoma Fire spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune.
Fire crews were on the scene Thursday morning putting out hot spots, the post said.
There was extensive damage in the building. The number of units that were damaged is currently not know, Shepherd said.
There were no reported injuries, and no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
10 a.m. update: The fire is out and roads have reopened. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Tacoma Fire said in an update on X.
