A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with another vehicle in Tacoma on Wednesday night.

Officers were dispatched at around 7:30 p.m. to the area of 48th Street and Pacific Avenue. Police learned that the motorcyclist was driving at a high rate of speed. He attempted to overtake a vehicle but collided with another, Tacoma Police Department detective William Muse told The News Tribune.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, Muse said. The other driver was uninjured.

There were no signs of impairment from the motorcyclist or driver. Muse said that speed was a major factor in the wreck.
