Veterans Day: What’s operating, what’s closed in Tacoma, Pierce County on holiday
Monday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday. While many businesses will be operating on normal schedules, some entities will not:
▪ Banks, mail service: In general, banks and post offices will be closed Monday. Shipping services, such as UPS and their store locations, will be operating, but some parcels processed Monday could require one extra day in transit.
▪ Stock market: New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be operating as usual; bond markets will be closed.
▪ Libraries: Pierce County’s library system will be closed Monday, along with Puyallup Public Library. (Tacoma Public Library system is normally closed on Mondays and was closed Nov. 9 in observance).
▪ County courts, offices: Pierce County Superior Court, District Court and court administration as well as county administrative offices will be closed.
▪ City of Tacoma: City of Tacoma administrative offices will be closed.
▪ Parking: On-street parking in Tacoma will be free.
▪ Trash: The Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center (3510 S. Mullen St.) will open. Garbage, recycling, and yard/food waste pick-ups will not be affected.
▪ Recreation: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park will be open and both offering Veterans Appreciation Days.
▪ Transit: Sound Transit Express and Pierce Transit buses will operate on a weekday schedule as will Sounder commuter rail, T Line and Link light rail.
