One person dead following house fire near Gig Harbor. Cause remains under investigation

One person is dead after a fire broke out inside a Gig Harbor-area home over the weekend.

Key Peninsula fire crews were dispatched at 10:57 a.m. on Sunday to the fire near the Lake of the Woods neighborhood off 140th Street, department spokeswoman Anne Nesbit told The News Tribune.

Crews found the critically injured victim inside the home. The department reported later that afternoon on Facebook that the victim died.

The fire was knocked down, Key Peninsula Fire said on Facebook at 11:28 a.m. The fire was fully out at 12:39 p.m., and crews remained at the scene for some time.

“Thank you to Gig Harbor Fire and Mason County Fire, for your mutual aid support. Please respect the profound loss that has occurred today and send peace to those who are suffering,” the post said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
