Tacoma family displaced after fire burns through their home over the weekend

A Tacoma family has been displaced after a fire burned through parts of their home Sunday.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:17 p.m. to the 8800 block of South M Street. The fire began in the attached garage and moved into the kitchen and living rooms. The fire also spread upstairs, Tacoma Fire spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune.

The family was inside the home when the fire began but escaped without injuries. A cat died and another one is missing, she said. The American Red Cross was called to help the residents.
