Thousands of Pierce County residents will be given free hams and limited ham alternatives at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday.

“Hams for the Holidays” is an event similar to the drive-thru turkey giveaway that happened before Thanksgiving and is “inspired by the increased need for food assistance,” according to a Tacoma Venues & Events news release.

Commencement Bank is partnering with Tacoma Venues & Events and Nourish Pierce County for the giveaway.

The event will take place at Parking Lot G at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday, Dec. 19, from noon to 3 p.m.

John E. Manolides, Commencement Bank’s chief executive officer, stated in the release that since Commencement Bank is one of the last local banks that is headquartered in Pierce County, it is interested in finding way to support local communities.

“Since there was not an event like this surrounding the other holidays this season, we stepped up with a goal of distributing 1,000 hams,” Manolides stated in the press release. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Tacoma Dome, Nourish Pierce County, and our clients who sponsored Hams for the Holidays, we exceeded our goal and will feed over 2,000 families this year alone.”

Anyone who wishes to receive a free ham or an alternative is encouraged to sign up through the Commencement Bank website or through Eventbrite.
