See that big convoy of police headed into Pierce County on Friday? Here’s what we know

A caravan of police vehicles spotted moving south on Interstate 5 in Pierce County on Friday was part of an organized operation led by the Tukwila Police Department.

Over 1,000 people commented on a post on Facebook, saying at 3:07 p.m. Dec. 13 many people saw “a huge convoy of police vehicles from multiple agencies headed south on I-5.” Several people commented that they saw a long line of police vehicles, with estimates ranging from around 10 to over 30 in number, pass them on the freeway. Some wrote that they saw SWAT vehicles and some reportedly saw unmarked SUVs. At least four people said they thought the police vehicles went into the Lakewood area.

Tacoma Reddit also was filled with speculation about what was happening and why.

The News Tribune learned Monday the operation might have been headed up to Tukwila PD, so a reporter called there Monday evening.

Tukwila Police Department spokesperson Victor Masters confirmed via email that “it was a case we are handling.”

Asked about the reason for the response and the agencies involved, Masters wrote the agency can’t provide details now but will release information in the near future.

Stay tuned.
