Report: 39-year-old bicyclist struck by vehicle last month in Pierce County has died

A Tacoma bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle last month in Parkland has died from his injuries, according to Washington State Patrol.

A 30-year-old Tacoma man was driving his 2009 Dodge Caliber on Dec. 31, 2024 on state Route 9 at Tule Lake Road. The bicyclist was riding east and crossing state Route 7 at Tule Lake Road when he was struck at about 11:23 p.m., a WSP news release said.

The roadway was blocked for two hours and 57 minutes, the release said.

The bicyclist, 39-year-old Grey Chase, died at Tacoma General Hospital.

The Dodge’s driver was not injured and will not face charges, the release said. The cause of the crash was determined as a pedestrian in the roadway.
