Motorcyclist dies in University Place

A motorcyclist crashed and died late Sunday on a University Place street.

Neighbors in the 5000 block of Grandview Drive heard the crash about 10 p.m. and called 911, officials said Monday. Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a motorcycle lying in the street next to the rider.

They performed CPR, but Randall Bartley, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was wearing a helmet.

It was unclear what caused Bartley to lay down the bike, but investigators were looking into whether he had a medical problem.
