Update, Jan. 28: The bridge was scheduled to reopen Tuesday afternoon.

Original post: The Murray Morgan Bridge in Tacoma is closed following a malfunction, the city announced Friday afternoon.

The bridge, which takes East 11th Street over the Thea Foss Waterway, is closed to vehicles and pedestrians. It will remain open to shipping traffic, the City of Tacoma said on X.

The city said in a news release the bridge opened for a cargo ship but failed to fully close earlier on Friday. The city is working with a contractor to investigate and address the issue.

“Updates will be shared as they become available,” the release said.
