See all that heavy smoke in the North End of Tacoma on Tuesday? Here’s what happened

A fire inside a garage caused heavy smoke in the North End of Tacoma on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:29 p.m. to the 500 block of North L Street after the resident of the home reported the fire. Firefighters saw large amounts of smoke coming from the detached garage when they arrived, Tacoma Fire Department spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune.

She said the fire was contained to the garage and did not extend to the house. There was significant damage to a portion of the garage, but it was not a total loss.

There were no reported injuries, Shepherd said. The fire was unintentional and might have been caused by an electrical failure.
