A 95-year-old man who was found dead May 15 inside a home in the Fern Hill area of Tacoma has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities located James Webb of Tacoma in the 800 block of South 80th Street, according to a news release from the office May 20. His cause and manner of death were both listed as undetermined in an update to the release June 25.

The News Tribune reported that Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home at about 10 a.m. May 15 to serve an eviction notice. They found a 72-year-old woman who appeared to be experiencing significant mental health needs and were going to take her to the hospital when she told them that she was living with another adult, prompting them to go into the residence where they found Webb’s body.

The Sheriff’s Office turned the death investigation over to the Tacoma Police Department, and police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said May 15 that officers didn’t suspect foul play, The News Tribune reported. Boyd told The News Tribune on Wednesday that that is still accurate and that police are waiting for the results from the medical examiner.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s determination of cause and manner of death.
