Pedestrian killed on Tacoma highway after being struck by four cars, State Patrol says

A crash involving four vehicles on a Tacoma highway left one person dead Tuesday night.

A pedestrian was walking in one of the lanes on southbound I-705 just south of 11th Street when the vehicles struck them around 11:27 p.m., according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

One of the vehicles drove off to stop at a parking lot off South Union Avenue and South 23rd Street, the release said. Three of the vehicles stopped on the roadway.

The pedestrian died at the scene, the release said. Their age and gender has not yet been released.

The release said drugs or alcohol were involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Two drivers, 18 and 56, were from Tacoma, the release said. One 33-year-old driver was from Puyallup and a 26-year-old driver was from Federal Way. They were all uninjured.

The roadway was blocked for four hours and 21 minutes.
