Update: The roadway was reopened.

Original story: A pedestrian died after they were reportedly struck by a pickup truck and possibly a garbage truck on state Route 167 in Puyallup Wednesday morning.

The pickup truck was headed north towards Puyallup near 44th Street East when they struck the pedestrian who was in the road, Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo wrote on X.

The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m.

A 35-year-old man from Federal Way died at the scene, according to a WSP news release.

The pickup truck driver, a 58-year-old man, pulled over, Dattilo said. The driver was not impaired and is cooperating with the investigation.

Officials were working to confirm if a a 21-year-old garage truck driver also struck the pedestrian after the initial crash happened, he said. The driver of the garbage truck stopped and is also cooperating.

The release says that the driver struck the man after the initial crash.

Both directions of state Route 167 between 50th and 44th streets are closed. Detours are in place.

Dattilo told The News Tribune he hopes the road will re-open after the medical examiner completes their examination.
