Married couple in their 70s IDed as victims of fatal Pierce County house fire

A married couple killed in a house fire in Graham on Monday has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dudley Shoemaker III, 74, and Theresa Shoemaker, 77, of Graham, died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, according to a medical examiner news releases. The manner of death for both was ruled an accident.

Firefighters found the couple after responding shortly after 11 a.m. to a fire that broke out in a two-story residence in the 27600 block of Webster Road East.

A passerby noticed the flames and smoke and called 911. By the time firefighters arrived, flames had engulfed the house, The News Tribune reported.

A Pierce County Sheriff’s Office report said that the preliminary investigation had not uncovered any suspicious activity in the couple’s deaths.
