I-5 ramp near Tacoma to close overnight Monday. Here’s what we know
The 54th Avenue East on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5 in Fife is expected to close Monday evening, Oct. 20, as crews perform electrical work, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Work crews will be closing the ramp from 10 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in order to replace an electrical pole box, WSDOT said in a press release.
Drivers are asked to follow two detour routes:
- Either southbound on State Route 99 to northbound I-5 on-ramp on Port of Tacoma Road
- Or northbound on SR 99 to the northbound I-5 on-ramp on South 348th Street
The construction work is part of the ongoing SR 167 Completion Project to complete new connections to I-5, the ports of Tacoma and Seattle and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Once complete in stages, the SR 167 Completion Project will build six miles of new tolled highway between Puyallup and the Port of Tacoma. The entire project is expected to be done by 2030.
