Bonney Lake man dead, another jailed following SR 167 semi collision

A 29-year-old man from Bonney Lake died after a multi-vehicle crash pushed his car underneath a semi-truck on State Route 167 Thursday morning.

The man was stopped for traffic on northbound SR 167 near State Route 18 when a 25-year-old man from Elk Grove, California, driving behind him struck the rear of his vehicle, according to a Washington State Patrol press release.

The impact pushed the victim’s car underneath the rear of a semi-truck in front of him, causing his car’s engine to briefly catch fire.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and there were no other injuries, the release read. The incident was reported at 7:14 a.m.

The driver from California was booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

The collision blocked the roadway for six hours and 48 minutes, according to the release. Its cause remains under investigation.
