1 person found dead in fire-damaged home Sunday morning, Tacoma fire says
One occupant of a Tacoma residence was found dead in a fire-damaged home Sunday morning, Tacoma fire officials said via social media.
About 10 a.m., Tacoma Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 2400 block of North Union Avenue after a report of smoke coming from the home.
It took about 40 minutes to get the fire under control, they said.
“The source of the fire was challenging to locate and extinguish due to the condition of the home’s interior,” the social media post reads.
Spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd added that stuff stacked throughout the residence made access tough for fire crews.
Fire crews also found one occupant deceased in the home, according to the post. Shepherd referred the News Tribune to the Pierce County Medical Examiner for the details on the person they found.
The fire is still under investigation, so crews will remain on scene for fire watch throughout the day, according to the post.
Residents are asked to be cautious when driving through the area.
