Update: Busy Pierce County highway reopens after wreck involving state trooper

One direction of a busy Pierce County highway was shut down Monday evening after a state trooper was injured in a collision.

Eastbound state Route 512 at Canyon Road was closed as of about 7:10 p.m., trooper Kameron Watts posted on X. Traffic was diverted to Canyon Road until about 9:20 p.m. when the highway was re-opened.

“The Trooper was inside of their vehicle, in traffic, when struck from behind by another car and subsequently caused collisions with other cars,” Watts wrote.

The trooper was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Watts said.

“Following too closely is the main cause of this collision. Four cars total are involved. The Trooper only has minor injuries and no one else was transported to the hospital,” Watts added later on X.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office will be in charge of the investigation.
