Metro Parks has lifted a ban on grilling in Point Defiance Park.

Visitors now can use charcoal grills and barbecues in the park and other natural areas, such as Swan Creek Park, the agency said.

Fire danger in the area was high through the summer, prompting Metro Parks to issue the ban. The agency allowed propane grills again in September, but prohibited other devices until the state recently said fire danger in Pierce County was low.

The agency said it will be a few weeks before all the park’s grills are reinstalled, but visitors can bring their own in the meantime. They must be used in picnic areas.

The agency posts rules about grilling in the park online.
