Willow the moose has a lot of growing left to do
Willow, the moose calf at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, has a lot of growing left to do.
Keepers at the Eatonville park estimate she weighs 120 to 130 pounds. The average female moose weighs about 800 pounds.
Willow was born July 17, the day of the park’s 40th anniversary, to mother Connie and father Ellis.
Another adult moose, Nancy, also lives in the 425-acre free-roaming area.
Willow is the first moose born at Northwest Trek in 15 years.
The public voted on her name after staff members gave them the choice of Willow, Lily and Aspen.
She still relies on her mother’s milk but has been venturing out more to search for the branches and leaves that help round out her diet.
The moose calf also enjoys grain that keepers provide to supplement their diet.
“Willow hasn’t been afraid to explore,” zoological curator Marc Heinzman said.
