Bates Technical College will mark the completion of its newest building with an open house Thursday from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The open house will begin with a ceremony and art dedication at the new Advanced Technology Center at 2320 South 19th Street in Tacoma.

The $23 million building houses the college’s information technology, engineering and digital media programs. Approximately 200 students will be the first to study at the two-story building that fronts South 19th Street when winter quarter starts.

“The facility will help reinforce our connections with industry and community members, and will position our college at the forefront of innovation and collaborative learning in our region,” college President Ron Langrell said in a press release.

The 52,00-square-foot building includes an auditorium, other meeting rooms, classroom and learning resource spaces and student support services. The facility met the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold rating.
