House fire displaces Orting family

A house fire believed caused by a gas-fired hot water tank displaced a family in Orting on Thursday.

Orting Valley Fire & Rescue responded to the call about 3:15 a.m. and found smoke billowing from the home in the 300 block of Calistoga Street East.

Fire Chief Zane Gibson said the residents, believed to be three adults and two infants, weren’t hurt.

“Everybody got out OK, which is the most important piece at 3 in the morning,” Gibson said.

The house required response from multiple fire agencies, including Graham Fire & Rescue, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Pierce County fire marshal officials continued to investigate the fire, but believe the hot water tank was the cause. The amount of damage was undermined.

The residents were staying with family members, Gibson said, and the Red Cross was helping with their needs.
