Northwest Trek broke a 41-year-old daily attendance record Saturday, when 3,122 people attended the Eatonville park to celebrate the opening of its Kids Trek playground, Metro Parks Tacoma announced Monday.

The previous record of 3,055 was set in 1975, the first year the wildlife park was open.

The $1.9 million project takes up a half acre and features a 20-foot replica hollow cedar tree, ADA-accessible slides and paths, as well as a nearly 100-foot-long stream that flows to a replica beaver dam.

On Sunday, 2,424 visited the park, for a total of 5,546 over the weekend.
