Grandfather injured after being struck by car on Tacoma Narrows Bridge
A grandfather was struck by a car on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge late Sunday after his pickup truck stopped working and he stepped out to push it, according to the State Patrol.
The man was taken to a hospital but is expected to be OK. He suffered lacerations and bruises.
His three granddaughters in the pickup truck were not injured.
The crash happened just before 11 p.m. on eastbound state Route 16 after a woman driving a Honda Civic struck the man and dragged him several feet.
The woman told troopers she didn’t see the man. She was not believed to be impaired.
The HOV lane was closed nearly an hour for the investigation, reopening about midnight.
Troopers advised drivers whose vehicles become disabled to stay seat belted inside the car and call for help.
