Bike commuters can lock up their rides at Tacoma Dome Station
People who’d like to ride their bikes to the Tacoma Dome Station before catching a bus or train elsewhere soon will have a secure place to stow their rides.
A secure bicycle-storage area will open at the station 7 a.m. Thursday. It is on the Puyallup Avenue side of the station, near the entry to the garage and the bus platform.
The storage area is designed to hold up to 17 standard-size bikes and two oversize or tandem bikes. The facility contains a bike-repair station, lockers and a bench.
“The Tacoma Dome Station is a key transportation hub in our area, and parking there is near capacity,” Pierce Transit CEO Sue Dreier said. “Pierce Transit is committed to providing transportation options for our customers to complete the first and last part of their commute.”
The project cost $25,000, with the state Department of Transportation and Amtrak chipping in $20,000 and the City of Tacoma $5,000. Downtown on the Go provided staff support.
Spots in the storage area will rent for $8 per quarter or $25 per year, plus a $5 key deposit. Lockers inside the facility are first come, first served and are free.
Rental agreements are available at the Bus Shop at Tacoma Dome Station and online at www.piercetransit.org/bikes-buses/. Shop hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A completed rental agreement and payment must be delivered in person to the Bus Shop.
