A tractor-trailer hit and killed a 64-year-old man Tuesday in Fife, police said.

The man was identified as Steven Kender.

Officers were called about 7:35 a.m. to the 3500 block of Pacific Highway East and found Kender lying in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the truck driver was pulling out of a business and checking traffic when he headed west and hit the man.

“We don’t believe he saw the pedestrian crossing in that driveway area,” Assistant Chief Dave Woods said.

Kender was dragged into the road, where he was discovered shortly afterward.

Witnesses helped direct officers to the truck driver, who returned to the scene after being notified of the accident. Woods said he was cooperative during his interview.
