Firefighters to conduct training burn Wednesday in Lakewood

Firefighters from West Pierce Fire & Rescue will conduct a training session Wednesday at a two-story home located at 8511 South Tacoma Way in Lakewood.

The exercise, designed to give firefighters practice in fighting a live fire, begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 6.

Crews will set as many as four fires, prior to allowing the house to burn down. Firefighters plan to learn more about fire behavior, breaching walls, truck operations, utilizing a breathing apparatus and coping with high temperatures and limited visibility inside a burning building.

The exercise is scheduled to last all day.
