June programs at the Gig Harbor library promise fun for all ages

The Gig Harbor Pierce County Library branch is kicking off the summer with a series of June events and summer programs that offer fun for all ages.

June events at the library include:

▪  Quick Start 3-D Printing: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 11 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 15 — A hands-on class for ages 12 and older to get certified to use the library’s 3-D printers. Registration required online.

▪  Beekeeping with Greg Farley: 6 to 8 p.m. June 14 — Beekeeper Greg Farley will discuss the plight of bees and what is needed to prepare for acquiring bees and the skills needed to manage a sustainable home bee colony.

▪  Adult fiction book discussion group: 2:30 to 4 p.m. June 16 — June’s book is “The American Heiress” by Daisy Goodwin. Vivacious Cora Cash’s early-20th century marriage to England’s most eligible duke is overshadowed by his secretive nature and the traps and betrayals of London’s social scene.

▪  Building Madness: 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 18 — Construct fabulous contraptions using Legos, straws, connectors, blocks and more. All ages welcome and children under 6 with an adult.

▪  Point Defiance Zoo: Amazing Animal Athletes: 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 23 — Learn about amazing animal athletes and meet an animal member from the Point Defiance Zoo team. This event is for ages 5 and older and requires online registration.

▪  Charlie the Noise Guy: Sound Coach: 10:30 a.m. June 24 — All ages are invited to a speed-reading triathlon with verb vaulting, tongue twisters, vocal gymnastics and a sound-effect slalom. Participants advised to stretch their laugh muscles before the program.

▪  Lego Mindstorms: 2 to 4 p.m. June 30 — Learn the basics of building robots with Lego Mindstorms. Ages 8 to 18. Online registration required.

Summer library programs include:

▪  Summer reading program: June 18 to Aug. 31 — The annual summer reading program for kids, teens and adults.

▪  Summer Stories for Babies: 9:30 a.m. every Monday beginning June 20 through Aug. 8 — Join in with your child and enjoy books, action rhymes, knee bounces, songs and more. Ages newborn to 2 with an adult.

▪  Summer Stories for Toddlers: 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday beginning June 22 through Aug. 10 — Enjoy simple picture books, songs, fingerplays, movement games and more. Ages 2 to 3 with an adult.

▪  Summer stories for Preschoolers: 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday beginning June 22 through Aug. 10 — 11:30 a.m. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes and crafts. Ages 3 to 6 with an adult.

▪  El Grupo Spanish Talk Time: 12:30 to 2 p.m. every Friday — A weekly Spanish conversationalist group.
