Gig Harbor police blotter: Passing fake Benjamins, and taking mom the laundry

Fake Benjamin

April 7 – After a man tried paying with a fake $100 bill and was turned down, he tried to steal a handful of items anyway, putting them in a bag and ignoring staff when they told him to pay for the items.

Police were dispatched at 10:40 a.m. to the 11400 block of 51st Avenue where the suspect had taken a bottle of body spray and a pack of men’s boxer shorts. He initially attempted to use a fake $100 bill to buy a laptop charger, but staff used a test pen to reveal the bill was fake.

The suspect was asked to pay for the items but he refused, walking out of the store and driving away. There is no plate number available, but video footage was obtained by the officer.

Mom was doing his laundry

April 8 – After a man refused to leave the parking lot of a hotel, police were called in to warn the man from the property. When talking to police, the man asked if he could be banned from the property if he owned it. Asked if he owned the property, the man said no, “but maybe he would buy it.”

Police were dispatched at 1:53 p.m. to the 3200 block of 56th Street where the man’s mother was renting a room in the hotel. The man was seen walking around the parking lot and looking into the car windows.

The man was homeless and was having his mother do his laundry for him. The mother told police that she did not want her son at the hotel.
