Beauty Bark and traffic accidents keep firefighters busy

July 17: Motor Vehicle Collision
Just after 3:30 p.m., Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to reports of a two vehicle rear-end accident at the 6200 block of State Route 16. It was reported that one vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and neither driver was getting out of their vehicle although bystanders were attempting to assist. Engines blocked the collision for scene safety and assessed and treated the drivers. One driver was transported for further care.
July 19: Smoldering Beauty Bark Fire
A citizen reported seeing a small beauty bark fire in the area of the skate park by Kimball Dr just after 9 p.m. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and saturated the soil. A cigarette butt was found in the charred area.
July 20: Brush Fire
Firefighters responded just after noon to Metagenics, 9770 44th Ave., for the report of a beauty bark and shrub fire. Employees had used dry chemical extinguishers and hand tools to extinguish the fire. When crews arrived a small area was smoldering. Firefighters overhauled the area and confirmed the fire was out.. The source of the fire is unknown.
July 20: Three-car accident
Multiple reports were received about a three car, T-bone type accident at Purdy Drive NW and Purdy Lane NW around 2pm. Crews established traffic control while medics evaluated and treated the drivers of all vehicles involved. One driver was transported to the hospital for further care. Crews continued to assist with traffic control after Washington State Patrol and the Department of Transportation arrived.
July 23: Off-ramp accident
Firefighters and Medics arrived on the scene of a three car rear-end type collision on the State Route 16 off ramp at Purdy just after 4:30 p.m. Cars were on both shoulders so crews blocked traffic until vehicles could be safely consolidated. All three drivers declined medical evaluation. Washington State Patrol was on scene and handled the accident investigation.
