Kayakers: Here’s when the Community Paddler’s Dock opens in Gig Harbor, what to know

The Community Paddler’s Dock is ready.

Kayakers, canoers and stand-up paddle boarders can start using the floating dock this weekend, after the City of Gig Harbor’s ribbon-cutting 11 a.m., Saturday.

The Mayor will “recognize the community partners that brought this open-to-the-public recreational waterfront access point to life,” according to a Facebook post made by the city of Gig Harbor.

The floating dock at Ancich Waterfront Park, 3589 Harborview Dr., will rise and fall with the tide, The Gateway previously reported, and is part of the adjoining commercial pier owned by the Jerkovich family at the south end of the park.

The launch of this dock will make it easier for kayakers, canoers and stand-up paddle boarders to get on the water. After several years of negotiations, it will be home to the Gig Harbor Canoe and Kayak team.

The dock will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
