The Gig Harbor Arts Center Alliance is in the midst of making plans to build a regional arts center for peninsula communities that would boost the area economy, provide performance, studio, and education space for a wide variety of performing and visual arts, and add a new and unique dimension to quality of life in the region.
It will be located near the Gig Harbor YMCA.
“Plans for the proposed center are on our website, www.gigharborartscenter.org,” said Jonathan Bill, board president.
The Alliance will host “An Evening of Extraordinary Delights” fundraiser at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. The event will include dinner, a choice of salmon or vegetarian pasta, and an auction of contributed items, the main feature of which will be a number of large boat oars turned into unique art pieces by a variety of area artists. The oars can be seen now on display at the Harbor History Museum.
Money raised at the event will be used for an economic feasibility study to confirm the viability of the project.
Seats are $35 and must be purchased in advance. For tickets via phone, call Bill at 253-549-8668. Or send a check to him at 9501 159th St NW, Gig Harbor 98329. For more information, visit the website or see the Gig Harbor Arts Center Alliance Facebook page.
