Gallinger vacates school board seat

The Peninsula School District announced an opening on the Board of Directors on Monday after Harlan Gallinger vacated his seat.

Gallinger registered to vote in another county, making him ineligible to continue serving on the school board. The vacancy is effective immediately.

Letters of interest will be accepted through 4 p.m. July 20. Interviews with applicants will be conducted by the board the following week.

Final selection of a candidate will be done in a public session.

Potential board members must live within District 4, which covers Fox Island, Raft Island and Artondale.

The district is also seeking candidates who are committed advocates for education at all grade levels and are willing to communicate with citizens regarding public education.

The appointee will serve until the November election. Gallinger’s seat was up for election, and he had announced that he would not run.

Gallinger had served on the board since 2012. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
