In 2013, an afterschool percussion ensemble of youth ranging in age from 14 to 21 began practicing at Peninsula High School. They’ll perform for the community next week.
The Eruption Drum and Bugle Corps, helmed by director Ryan McLain, will perform a free concert that begins at 7 p.m. at Roy Anderson Field, 14105 Purdy Dr NW, Gig Harbor.
The ensemble includes 56 members who play brass instruments, drums, marimbas and xylophones. The band will march the football field for a show. Eruption also includes a color guard.
The piece performed will be “Inferno,” composed by composer Robert Smith. It is a piece that was inspired by 14th century poet Dante’s seminal work.

The group has been working on the piece since November, McLain said.
The Gig Harbor show is the first in a summer tour titled Inferno. Up next are dates in McMinnville, Ore.; Renton; Seaside, Oregon; and Tri-Cities.
