Gig Harbor crews fight house fire near Kopachuck State Park, transport cat to vet

Gig Harbor Fire crews responded to a house fire reported shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19 on 51st Street Northwest near Kopachuck State Park.

“The crew began an offensive attack to knock down the fire which also extended into the attic,” the agency tweeted. “After experiencing water supply issues the crews transitioned to a defensive attack.”

There were no reported injuries, according to a tweet from Gig Harbor Fire.

“Crews rescued a cat and transported it to the vet,” the tweet said.

The Pierce County Fire Marshall is at the scene to determine what caused the fire, according to Gig Harbor Fire’s tweets. The agency thanked crews from Orting Valley Fire, West Pierce Fire and Rescue and Tacoma Fire for their help to fight the blaze.

A Gig Harbor Fire spokesperson did not immediately respond to messages from the Gateway seeking further information.

Videos the agency posted on Twitter showed smoke billowing from the multistory home.

Further information was not immediately available.
