Members of the Fox Island Yacht Club gathered Saturday to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary at the clubhouse on Fox Island.

The evening began with a social hour allowing the 150 attendees to view displays of the club’s history and peruse photo albums that featured past club events.

It was followed by over an hour of presentations of the club’s history from from former club Commodores, beginning at its foundation in 1965 and continuing to the present. Presenters included Paul Lundquist, John Spencer, David Wemmer, Jim McCoskey and Rob Moore.

Stan Weston, one of the original 12 club charter members, was in attendance and talked about the club’s foundation in 1965.

David Wemmer, current club Commodore, said that the club history and past members is important to all the current club members.

“We’re committed to the idea of honoring the past and pushing toward the future,” Wemmer said. “We don’t want to forget where we came from.”

Dinner was served after the presentations and the evening ended with a social hour and attendee gifts.

“It was a fantastic event,” said McCloskey, a former Commodore. “A truly fun and interesting evening.”
