The Gig Harbor High girls swim team didn’t taper or wear tech suits before its big Class 3A South Sound Conference championship meet last week.
But it didn’t seem to matter, as the team rolled to the Class 3A South Sound Conference title at the Evergreen College pool in Olympia, taking first place with 400 points. In second place was Capital with 235 points. Peninsula came in third, with 228 points.
“Throughout the meet, the (girls) performed some best or near-best times,” Gig Harbor swim coach Mike Kelly wrote in an email.
Kelly explained that the team tinkered with different lineups and relay combinations in different events, and will be subject to change for the district and state meets.

“This was a fun meet,” Kelly wrote. “Despite some hiccups in the running of the meet, it turned out to be exciting for the athletes, coaches and fans.”
