Grand opening of new Puyallup Safeway is Saturday
A new Safeway grocery store on Pioneer and Shaw roads in Puyallup is to hold its grand opening Saturday.
A celebration begins at 11 a.m. with music, food and contests.
The new store will replace the Safeway in the Valley Plaza shopping center, which was scheduled to close Friday.
Many employees from the Valley Plaza store will transfer to the new store at 708 Shaw Road, said Tairsa Worman, a spokesperson for Safeway.
Aisles in the new 56,000-square-foot store commemorate local streets and attractions, including Meeker, North Meridian and Pioneer Park. The deli counter will offer made-to-order pho, sushi, poke bowls, wok meals and sandwiches, Worman said. Nearby, there is a soup bar, salad bar, wing bar and olive bar.
Customers can buy coffee at the self-serve station, with indoor and outdoor seating. The store also includes a pharmacy, credit union, floral department, bakery and butcher block. A “beverage steward” will work in a wine, beer and spirits department to help customers with recommendations and pairings, Worman said.
The store will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
