Puyallup: News

This mega-warehouse project would bring 300 to 500 family-wage jobs to Pierce County

Plans for a warehouse and or industrial park in Edgewood are in the works.

The city’s website says Prologis LP, a real estate investment trust company, plans to construct a 1,065,000-square-foot warehouse and or industrial park at 3926 90th Ave. E. There would be up to four buildings that would be about 60 feet tall, Mayor Daryl Eidinger told The News Tribune.

Construction could start as soon as summer 2024 if everything comes together, Eidinger said.

City senior planner Morgan Dorner wrote in an email to The News Tribune Nov. 28: “The project is currently undergoing an environmental review process in coordination with neighboring jurisdictions, the Puyallup Tribe, and state and federal agencies to study the project’s potential environmental impacts.”

The company filed a permit application with the city in January 2021.

Eidinger said there are many requirements a project this large must meet before construction begins. The Puyallup Tribe, state and federal governments are involved as the site is in between Wapato Creek and Simons Creek.

The park would bring between 300 to 500 family-wage jobs to the area, Eidinger said. The company would decide what businesses would use the property.

He said the park is “right in tune” with the structures in the area, because there are other warehouses across the street from the site.

Asked what feedback the city has gotten from residents, Dorner forwarded emails the city has received.

One resident who lives near the site wrote to the city in February 2021 that: “Having a large warehouse next to a nice neighborhood is concerning due to potential drop in property value, increased noise, and potential crime increase.”

Another resident wrote that same month: “We are not in support of the transition from the rural feel of the area to a more commercial and developed character. We understand the demand for property for commercial development and the financial motivation of the sellers involved, however, we would ask that the city require a substantial vegetative buffer wherever this development borders residential property.”
