Three adults injured after head-on crash in East Pierce County. 20-year-old arrested

Three adults were injured Monday after their truck collided head-on with another truck on state Route 165 just southwest of Buckley.

A 20-year-old man from Othello and a 21-year-old man from Buckley were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. A 20-year-old woman from Elbe was transported to Tacoma General Hospital. All three rode in the same vehicle.

Trooper John Dattilo told The News Tribune one of the passengers was transported to Tacoma General because she had serious injuries. Dattilo said the injuries were not life-threatening.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on SR 165 and 128th Street East. The road was blocked for two hours and 51 minutes, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

The group rode in a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. They were traveling south on SR 165. The 20-year-old man was the driver. None of them wore seatbelts.

A 2016 Chevy Silverado pickup truck was headed north on SR 165. Two adults were inside, and both of them wore seatbelts. They were not injured.

The Toyota crossed the double yellow line and struck the Chevy head-on in the northbound lane, according to the WSP news release. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder.

The 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault, according to the WSP news release.
