Crews battle large fire at Pierce County warehouse for hours Sunday night
Crews spent hours fighting a large commercial fire Sunday in Orting.
According to a Facebook post from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue on Monday morning, the fire occurred in the 13000 block of 142nd Avenue East. The fire started at about 7:30 p.m.
When crews arrived, they found “a warehouse with pressurized smoke coming from all sides of the structure,” the post said.
“Due to the size of the building and active fire conditions, the incident was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm,” the post said. “Crews began an interior attack but transitioned to a defensive exterior strategy due to low visibility and potential structural compromise.”
The post did not name the business.
Crewsput the fire out by 11 p.m., the post said, and they remained on the scene for eight and a half hours. No employees were inside the building during the fire.
“The cause is currently under investigation by the Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office,” the post said.
