Traffic slowdowns expected during work in downtown Puyallup this week

There will be slowdowns at several Puyallup intersections this week.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Puyallup, crews will be doing work at the intersections of Ninth Avenue Southwest and Meridian Avenue as well as Ninth Avenue Southwest and Fifth Street Southwest from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This work will last from Tuesday, Dec. 9 to Friday, Dec. 12.

“Contractors will be installing the new signal poles and need access to both intersections. Police officers will be directing traffic during the work,” the post said. “Please obey officer commands and drive carefully through these intersections while the work is being done.”

Crews will also close some parts of Ninth Avenue Southwest between Meridian and Fifth Street Southwest, since they will be installing some final items as part of the Ninth Avenue Festival Street Project.

On Thursday, the city will fully close Fifth Street Southwest between Seventh Avenue Southwest and Ninth Avenue Southwest. This closure will last from the morning on Thursday, Dec. 11 to midday on Dec. 12.

“We understand these closures/delays may cause traffic disruptions during the holiday season,” the post said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience while we navigate getting this work done.”
