Lakewood sisters stop luring attempts by locking themselves in family car, hitting man with shovel

Two young sisters locked themselves in the family car when a man tried to lure them from home, and the youngest whacked him with a small shovel when he returned, Lakewood police said.

Police spokesman Chris Lawler gave this account:

The man showed up at the girls’ Lakewood home Nov. 8, and the 6-year-old and 8-year-old locked themselves in the family car. Their older sibling screamed and the man ran away.

When the man came back the next day, he grabbed the 6-year-old’s hand and said he was going to chase her. When she hit him with a shovel and screamed, he ran off.

The girls’ father later spotted the man crouched between cars outside the home. Police found the man in an abandoned shed and arrested him.
