Lakewood police are seeking a man who has broken into at least four homes Wednesday while nude.
Curtis Sell, a 53-year-old man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, is believed to be the suspect in the break-ins, according to a news release from police spokesman Chris Lawler.
“It started out this morning. First we thought it was weird,” Lawler said. “Then it turned into more than that. Everything started to go downhill.”
Officers, including Lawler, are planning to stay in the neighborhood Wednesday evening to search for Sell.
“We’re just worried that he’s in somebody’s house,” Lawler said. “He could have fled the area.”
According to the release:
Officers responded to a report of a naked man trying to enter a home in the 4400 block of 111th Street Southwest through a window just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses saw the naked man and yelled at him, which scared him off. They described him as a skinny man in his 50s with thinning hair.
Just before noon, another person in the same neighborhood came home to find a naked man in her bedroom, trying on her undergarments.
“He calmly left the home and left naked,” Lawler wrote, “wearing only black-and-white tennis shoes.”
Another woman woke up to find Sell standing by her bed, naked, wearing nothing but a condom and one of her belts.
When she reacted, the man fled.
The woman did not give many details to police, including the time that it happened.
A fourth incident happened about 3 p.m. in an apartment in the 4500 block of 111th Street Southwest.
A woman came home and saw that someone had entered through a sliding glass door and ransacked the home.
The man seen fleeing the apartment matched the description of the other burglaries, except this time he was clothed in a blue tank top and shorts.
Lakewood police also received reports of a naked man walking through the neighborhood overnight.
Police found a camp in the 11100 block of Lakeview Avenue Southwest that they believe belonged to the suspect.
There, they found a bicycle, some women’s underwear and a cellphone, which had pictures of Sell wearing the lingerie.
Officers are searching the neighborhood for Sell. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.
“Meanwhile, residents in the area are asked to keep an eye out for Sell and to do their best to secure their homes during this heat wave we are experiencing,” Lawler wrote.
