Woman, 70, sexually assaulted by stranger while bringing in her garbage can from curb

A man has been charged with sexually attacking a 70-year-old Tacoma woman as she brought her garbage can in from the curb outside her home.

Pierce County prosecutors charged 21-year-old Donteas Roger Lee Hunt on Thursday with indecent liberties and sexually motivated second-degree assault, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Charging papers give this account of the attack:

The woman called police Feb. 8 to say a stranger had sexually assaulted her about 12:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of South 40th Street.

An officer responded, and saw she was shaken and appeared to have blood on her clothing, scratches on her face, a swollen lip and a bruise on the back of her hand.

She told police she had walked to the curb to get her garbage can, and that someone passed her as she headed back to her house. That made her feel uneasy, and she quickly made her way back through the alley to her home.

She put the can in her yard and was on her way to the front door when the same person who had passed her showed up again. He was wearing a stocking cap and a blue bandana over his face, and said he was looking for his dog.

The woman told him she hadn’t seen a dog, and then he grabbed her jacket and pulled it over her head.

Next he grabbed her by the throat, forced her to the ground and said things such as, “Give me what I want,” “I won’t hurt you” and “Don’t scream.”

He pulled down her pants and touched her inappropriately for about 10 to 15 minutes, she said, and then left.

Investigators matched DNA from the woman’s jacket to Hunt.

He had not yet been arrested as of Friday, and police asked anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to call 253-591-5968.
