Deputies want package-seeking ‘Grinch’ before he steals Christmas gifts

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies want to catch a man who stole a package off a Puyallup-area porch earlier this month before the Christmas season starts in earnest.

The thief, compared to Dr. Seuss’ legendary Christmas ne’er-do-well “The Grinch” in a Sheriff’s Department post to Facebook, struck Nov. 9.

A doorbell camera on the home along 66th Avenue East captured the thief in action.

The man walked up to the porch with a lit cigarette in his mouth, looked at the door and then stuffed a small parcel underneath his light-colored Seattle Seahawks jacket. Then he fled to his vehicle and left the area.

Inside the box was about $100 worth of cosmetics.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Proactive Property Crime Unit at 253-798-3278.
