Washington State Patrol is asking for help finding the men who pulled off a diamond heist that unfolded like a movie scene on Tuesday afternoon.
Troopers responded to what they thought was an attempted carjacking at about 3:45 p.m. near westbound state Route 520 and Interstate 5. The victim was traveling with a bag of diamonds as he visited jewelry clients in the Seattle and Bellevue area. He drove a 2017 Nissan Altima with Oregon license plates.
The man was on his way to his final stop of the day when he was cut off by a dark-colored sedan whose driver slammed on the brakes, according to a statement released by WSP. The victim hit his brakes and then was intentionally struck from behind by another car, troopers said.
Two men wearing bandannas approached the victim’s vehicle, broke out both front windows, struck him several times and took a bag of diamonds, a key fob, and his phone. They then removed a large suitcase from the trunk.
The diamonds were valued at $400,000.
The victim’s phone was tracked to a grassy area at 650 NE 42nd St. in Seattle, where it had been discarded.
The victim was treated at the scene by the Seattle Fire Department and was later interviewed at WSP headquarters.
Detectives are asking anybody with information about the heist to call 425-401-7746 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
